Poppy Dance: Acrylic and pastels flower painting time lapse video

This is a mixed media painting with acrylic and pastels: Poppy Dance.

I made a movie showing the process, I took my video camera to the studio, recorded most of the process (except a few slides at the beginning and at the end) and then increased the movie frame rate  about 8 times.

It was interesting for me to see the process as I seem to be improvising less than what I was thinking I would be. Perhaps it is the effect of the acceleration but it looks like I have a plan 🙂

For this painting I added a lot of layers then at one point you see me scrubbing the background to remove some of the paint because I wanted an aged look and also recover some of my original layers.

I am a Blick Art Materials affiliate and I receive a small compensation for sales. That does not effect in any way the cost of the purchaser’s order but it helps me keeping the content of this blog free.

Amsterdam Expert Series Acrylic Sets

The well-balanced sets are chosen from Amsterdam’s full range of 70 genuine artists’ colors, formulated with high concentrations of authentic, non-fading pigments. These heavy body paints are exceptionally durable and flexible due to their 100% acrylic resin formulation. – Expert Series Set of 12

Towards the end of the movie I add layers of dry pastels also, I like mixing acrylics and pastels, these medium work well together, they are both mat and pastel adheres well to the acrylic surface.
