This is my latest painting on canvas, still working from a series of pictures I took during our summer road trip to Alberta.
I published some of those pictures in a Red Bubble Gallery here:
Road Trip, Acrylic and mixed media on canvas painting tutorial
For this painting I used mostly Acrylic and pastels, with a bit of alcohol, medium, fixative, crayon, pencil.

This is the picture I worked from. The colors are pretty muted but I liked the composition with the posts and mountains . I also liked how the road gets you in the picture.

I started with a yellow-orange underpainting in acrylic, then made a rough drawing with a white crayon.

Here I started applying blocs of colors. The drawing in wax crayon act as a resist and stays visible under the layers of Acrylic paint.

I add some layers of diluted white liquid acrylic to the sky area, in a watercolor manner. Spraying Alcohol to add some texture.

I now spray the painting with water and will scrub off paint again to add more depth and complexity to my colors

I now wait for the paint to dry and now work with dry pastels. The advantage is that I can try different colors and wash them away if I don’t like it.
Prezi Presentation
I already talked about Prezi presentations on this blog, Prezi is a free tool on the internet that allows you to make dynamic presentations. You can make your resume, explain a complex subject … Personally I like using it for demonstrations and Portfolio presentation.
Here is an example of the prezi I had running on my computer for our last open house at 195 Studios. It works best if you click on “more” then “full screen” then “autoplay” or you can go at your own speed by clicking on the grey triangle.

This is great. Love the way it draws your eye into the picture.
Thanks Berene
I think the thing I learn most by following you, Sandrine, is to never give up on something. I think there are times when I stop short and I really enjoy seeing what goes into your paintings. Part of enjoying the painting, above, is seeing how you created that road! It draws me along it better than any other road painting I have viewed. You make each painting stand alone and I like that about your work.
Thanks Leslie! you have been such a positive encouragement since I started this blog:-)
