April 29, 2023 2023-04-29 20:39About Me
Originally from France, I have been living in North Vancouver, Canada for the past 23 years.
My work has been collected and exhibited extensively in Canada and internationally. I am also part of the Art Rentals and sales program of the Vancouver Art Gallery.
Many of my paintings have been published in Art books and magazines (Artist Magazine, Watercolor Artist Magazine, Acrylic Magazine, International Artist Magazine). I wrote 2 art instruction books with North Light/F+W Books
I am an active member in the community, as a co-founder of the North Shore Art crawl, a co-founder of a weekly life drawing group. I served as a board member of the North Vancouver Arts Council for 7 years and have been invited as a juror for public art, art grants and juried exhibitions.
I enjoy teaching art and my core belief is that everybody is an artist and deserve to enjoy the benefit of self expression through art making. We all start as beginners and can learn through experimentation, trial and error.

Painting Flowers in mixed media from Imagination
Loved the process and happy with results. Instructions and demos done well.
Painting flowers from imagination
Unbelievably creative
This is my second course with Sandrine. Every course is well constructed with numerous online guidance, prompt replies to all questions and lots of encouragement.
The interaction with other students is valuable with the opportunity to learn further tips from their experience with the course. The best treat I have given myself.
Inspiring “flowers from imagination” class
Wonderful techniques and a great class! I have gone back many times over the content to review. Sandrine is very thorough. Love this class!
I am very glad I took this class
As an artist one of the most exciting things is to be introduced to completely new ways of creating art. I thoroughly enjoyed this class every step of the way.
This class is very well organized and you can also go back as many times as you want to review each section. (even after you’re done with the class)
Everything is clearly explained and has clear video showing each step. And if you have any questions along the way, Sandrine is right there to assist you.
Sandrine is an incredible artist, so talented and has opened my eyes to many different ways of creating art. I am very glad I took this class and have already started using the things I’ve learned to create new types of artwork. LOVE IT !!!
So interesting!
This is the first course (but not the last!), that I have taken from Sandrine. I really like her paintings and when I saw one and it lead me to her website, I was hooked. This is a fairly intuitive class, with a learning curve for those (like me), who are not very familiar with painting with acrylics. I love the way Sandrine combines pen and ink with her paintings and I also love the use of patterns. So interesting! I am certain I will continue to study from this course and refer to it over and over and learn more from it each time. Thank you, Sandrine, for being a great artist and teacher. Looking forward to future courses.
One of the best online classes I have participated in
Sandrine’s class is one of the best online classes I have participated in. Wonderful techniques clearly demonstrated. I have been greatly inspired by Sandrine’s work and have already begun to use what I have learned in my own work.
I feel much more confident after taking her class.
I am so glad I purchased Sandrine’s class on painting flowers. She gives very good instruction with many new tips and tricks for painting flowers in a new and fresh way. I feel much more confident after taking her class.
Strongly recommend!
This is a mindset changing approach, which challenges left brain ‘start with the end in mind’. Starting with an abstract canvas and ‘seeing’ what it calls one to do has made me smile more often as I am working – so much more intuitive and enjoyable for me as an amateur, newly returning to art pursuits. Strongly recommend!
Very clear and easy to follow
I just finished my first postcard and canvas painting after taking your Imaginary Flowers class. I totally enjoyed learning your technique and will definitely be doing more. Your directions and videos were very clear and easy to follow. Thank you for the inspiration.
Thank you for re-igniting my interest in acrylics
I want to thank you for re-igniting my interest in acrylics. It’s amazing how much your instruction has me excited once more after a long, barren time in the studio!
I also teach. I want to offer more specific feedback as I know this is helpful for me. This is what I took away from your class;
*First, your presentation is professional, gentle and unhurried. I was able to soak in visual clues because you didn’t feel you needed to talk constantly (my own problem). Your set up was very easy to see and each step was clear in the process. There was no hurry and I remembered art making isn’t a race ; ) ! Sitting and looking, turning and looking again is as important as picking up a brush.
*Negative space and how important it is to composition. When painting the white space I realized how my composition can get fussy and is more powerful when less objects occupy an interesting space. I used titanium white liquid acrylic as this built up in glazing types of layers.

You are a generous teacher and I loved this class!! Kind regards,
PM
I am really enjoying your class!
I am really enjoying your class! This piece was such fun for me. It is part of a 6 – piece series I am doing called “On the Table”. Looks much better in my studio than the photo depicts…so thank you! I will share my other pieces as they finish. This one has to be varnished yet and framed.
I’m hooked!
I watched your online lesson the other day and got straight to work. It was such a fun process. I’m hooked! I am a full-time artist and usually paint tons of portraits. I do love painting people but the florals are a nice break from the routine 🙂
Thanks for your well-organized, inspiring online class.
I can’t tell you how much I love working in this way!
Sandrine, THANK YOU for your demo and instructions on creating abstract flowers with negative space.
I can’t tell you how much I love working in this way! It’s so relaxing and is such a refreshing way to look at painting. Every part of it is fun: the background, the looking for shapes, the negative painting, and the details afterwards.
This has done something for my mind that I’ve never experienced before, and I love it.
Thank you for sharing your creativity!
Great instructions and inspiration!
What a fun and spontaneous way to paint! Loved learning some new techniques. Even though I have been creating and teaching art for so many years I always feel there is more to learn. Great instructions and inspiration!
It was so good for me
Thank you very much for your flower class. It was so good for me and I think my art work will be very different now because you showed me the artful process from start to finish.
Your techniques are very honest and practical and more importantly… beautiful.
I just bought your watercolour book from amazon so look forward to that.
I wish i could do a class in person but I am in Australia…..so hopefully you will do more classes online.
Many thanks again
I’ve even sold one!
I am loving your flower painting course right now, so far I’ve only done very small ones, I’m working my way up to lager ones, I’ve even sold one!
LOVED THIS CLASS
LOVED THIS CLASS, made me realize how “tight” I get with a painting. Trying to relax and go with the flow, and cannot come close to these beautiful creations……will keep trying!!!!
Learned how to paint abstractly with Sandrine
I absolutely LOVE this way of painting! It opened up a whole new way for me to express myself.
I wish I had more time to do more…but here’s one that came out of my endeavors while watching one of Sandrine’s online videos. I ended up purchasing a video because of it.
I’m now also recreating one of a kind Artfits – The Art to Be on Etsy. Someday, I’d like to somehow do paintings on cloth, or transfer papers – so that it can cross over from painting to textiles. www.etsy.com/shop/thearttobe
Exciting Techniques
I enjoyed this class immensely. I learned how to use materials I already had more effectively and in new, exciting ways. I especially liked the layering process…the building of design and “discovering” flowers, stems & leaves in the random mish-mash of shapes and colors. I highly recommend this class for those wanting to break out of the traditional floral-painting mode.
Great Artist, Great Art-Teacher
I want to share with everybody about the experience I had taking 3 online classes an a book from Sandrine Pelissier.
I first bought the book of Fearless Watercolor for beginners. I highly recomemd this book for those who want to learn how to paint in watercolors. It teaches you step by step how to use watercolors and how to apply the different kind of techniques you can use. It also explains you the types of watercolor papers as well as the brushes. With this book it gives the energy to start painting with watercolor and the inspiration to learn more about it.
Once I read the whole book and made all the techniques from the book, I wanted to keep practising not only in watercolor but also with other medium, I took painting Imaginary Flowers. This online class was fun, beautifull, and the most important, relaxing class! Here you put in practice your imagination and creativity! There is no wrong or right here, you just need to have a grest time doing this!!
Also, I took 26 Weeks of Training and Inspiration. This is another of her online classes that I was addictived! I learn a lot here. It gave me the discipline to do it every day for 26 week. Of course, you can do it at your own pace, but I was hooked with this class. I highly recommend it!! If there were a second part, with my closed eyes I would do it!!
Lastly, I took the Express yourself, creative well being class. It was another class that helps you know yourself through your paint. This was fun. I enjoyed a lot!!
Awesome tutorials and a Great teacher!
After admiring Sandrine’s art for quite some time, constantly pinning her artwork and wishing I had talent like her! I took the plunge and and I’m so glad I did! Sandrine makes art fun and her techniques are very easy to follow. Before I knew it I was creating beautiful mixed media floral art! And for the first time I actually loved what I painted! Sandrine is not only very talented, she is also very kind and generous with her time. She’s quick to answer any questions you have and always does so with a sweet disposition.
She gave me confidence in myself, which is priceless! I learned so many techniques and I was exploring different mediums I’ve never heard of let alone used before! I’ve used some of the techniques I learned in this class on other types of art, not just florals. My eyes were opened up to so many different things by this one class.
There are not enough words to explain how grateful I am to Sandrine, she put a little spark of light into my art and I’m forever thankful for her generosity.
Both relaxing and thrilling
In this course it is both relaxing and thrilling to not have to preplan your artwork. Instead you get to play with paint for awhile and then discover the flower shapes you want to bring out. No pressure. No critic saying you can’t do this because you start out with no plan or expectation; just play. It is also great fun to find flowers that don’t have to resemble any from nature. You can’t really fail when you make up a flower. I find it fun and freeing to paint this way, and the results are rewarding, too.
Hi Sandrine,Thanks for your follow-up
Hi Sandrine,
Thanks for your follow-up (it’s motivated me more!). I haven’t started the course yet as I am setting up a little studio for myself in a garage where I plan to work 1 full day per week, at least. The weather in Sydney at the moment is very hot and humid and the studio (a metal 2-car garage) is too hot to work in (no air con etc.) but from April onwards it will be delightful and that’s when I plan to do the exercises in your course. So for now I’m setting things up and buying materials. I will let you know when I start and how I’m going.
Thank you for asking and thank you for offering such a safe way for people to get tuition in the privacy of working alone. (My 3 experiences with art tuition classes here in Sydney when I was younger were poisonous and it left me with a deep ambivalence about pursuing what seems to be a natural interest of mine.)
Your courses seem like a great way for me to “get back on the horse” – you leave us alone to go at our own pace but your presence and availalbity is always there – very reassuring without being intrusive. Thanks so much, Sandrine,
Sincerely
Francesa
Painting Flowers from Imagination was a really fun course
Painting Flowers from Imagination was a really fun course. The technique is very stress free. I did one painting and I thought it was way too dark and was going to gesso over it. (Normal stressing) However, Sandrine tells you how to use pastels, watercolor or acrylic to work the painting and bring out color or change color and make it what you want. Sandrine takes you through the process step-by-step and I found all my questions answered as I went along in the course. I would recommend this to anyone from beginner to experienced painter. If you like to draw, the patterns are really fun to work out and to see how they transform your paintings.
Thank you, Sandrine for this
Thank you, Sandrine for this great course. I love it.
It really makes fun working in this way and getting new inspiration.
I really enjoyed this class.
I really enjoyed this class. It was well- paced and clearly explained. I was very happy with the work I produced, and now I’m motivated and have gotten back into painting again!
I was fascinated by images
I was fascinated by images of Sandrine’s imaginary flowers. I am enjoying the lessons and looking forward to seeing my own finished pieces.
Hi Sandrine, thank you
Hi Sandrine, thank you for your wonderful class which I have really enjoyed!! I am hoping to make some cards from my paintings and hoping to experiment more using the techniques i have learnt from you. I have emailed my friend in Austria and told her about your wonderful classes – they have been in Lock – Down in Austria for over 3 months so I thought she would appreciate your art courses to give her some inspiration.
Kind regards Tracey Wright.
This class has given me more tools and knowledge to develop as an artist
This class has given me more tools and knowledge to develop as an artist. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and ideas.
I truly enjoy the 26-week
I truly enjoy the 26-week course. The structure of the course is well-designed. The course is not strictly the traditional instructional type. It is made up of assignments. Each assignment encourages one to think and plan how to tackle the work. Sandrine provides a wealth of relevant and useful resource materials, videos and references for each assignment.
I am currently doing the course (first 2-3 weeks) and immensely benefiting from it. I have always been interested in pursuing creative activities but is hesitant to undergo a formal training in the arts. This is the reason why I find the course very useful. I am still finding which creative areas, styles and media I would be most interested to pursue. With the activities designed by Sandrine for the course, hopefully I would be able to find out.
I am truly glad to find this course.
Your course asks for creativity
Your course asks for creativity which I truly enjoy! Thank you.
Sandrine, this class was perfect
Sandrine, this class was perfect for me. It has helped me to learn new techniques that I wouldn’t have done on my own. Some techniques were a lot of fun and other very challenging. The expectation of your review kept me very excited about the new module. I’m so happy with this experience. Thank you very much!!!
Loving to learn new and unique art methods
Loving to learn new and unique art methods.
I on my 4th week
I on my 4th week of this amazing course. It is truly inspiring! I love the format very much. It is not rushed, you can think about the task, practice and learn on a subject of different techniques. Some of them I have never tried before, but Sandrine makes them so interesting and enticing that I have no fear to try them out and share my learning attempts with others:)
I learn something from each one
I feel so stretched by the classes, I learn something from each one. My first time using yupo paper and I think I will be more successful each time.
This class was better than I expected!
This class was better than I expected! I started off drawing myself in my sketch book and decided this would work best for me., so I continued. My original idea was that I would draw on canvas . I worked from a photo.
Fun! Tried the first one!
Fun! Tried the first one! Looking forward to getting in to the second. So nice to get into pen and paper again, but a long way to go…
I love the class!
I love the class!
This class gave me a a lot of food for thought
This class gave me a lot of food for thought. I will definitely try this technique again and perhaps add more mixed media e.g. pastels, inks etc.
I am not a formally trained artist
I am not a formally trained artist and was looking for a class that would give me a broad exposure to the things I might have learned had I gone to art school. This class fits the bill and is just what I was looking for. I have found the exercises, examples and tutorials so far to be excellent and I’m learning from them. The teacher’s insightful comments about my work, and the ability to see what others in the class are doing, are added bonuses.
It pushes me to create
Love this course because it pushes me to create and think of different ways to do art. I need challenges. Sharing views and ideas with other artists is awesome. Sandrine is an excellent teacher and communicator. Very helpful and generous with her comments and her blog. She gives so many tips and explain so many of her techniques than it’s very easy for us to try and succeed sometimes. She gives us all the tools we need to achieve our goals.
So far I am loving the class
So far I am loving the class, it is challenging me in new directions, that I may not otherwise take. My art before this class has been, drawing, acrylic and a little watercolour. I have had to think for myself instead of copying other artists. Your critique is most valuable and I can immediately see the reason for your comment, so I must inherently know what I need to do to improve.
I think the class is making me a better artist already. I am enjoying learning to use different media. Highly recommend Sandrines class to all.
I’m just about finished unit
I’m just about finished unit 2 and already feel I have learned a lot! Sandrine is sooooo kind and honest in her critique. The things she told me I could do to improve……I knew! And she told me how. I can see I will be learning a lot.
Spot on
I immensely enjoyed the course. It was full of new techniques and materials. A big exploring adventure. Sandrine is a great teacher. Her comments are spot-on. Firm and gentle at the same time and always constructive. It was a great learning experience and above all a lot of fun.

Enjoying the class and the new ideas. Hoping to refine my skills.

Seconds turned into hours
Once again, this chapter was not about the result, but about the amazing journey. Seconds turned into hours.
A big huge thank you
I’ve completed all 26 weeks and have learned a lot. Not only some techniques, but, basic approaches to planning works and critiquing my own work when completed. A big huge thank you for making 26 Weeks of Inspiration and Training available at a very affordable price. And, another huge load of thanks for taking the time to offer thoughtful and helpful critiques whenever requested. You have a gift for being both supportive and direct, and I’ve appreciated that.
It took a bit longer than 26 weeks for me to complete all the projects, still, I’m sad it’s coming to an end.
Art on!
This class has been a great experience. I have gotten to play with different styles, and moving outside my comfort zones. The class allows for setting your own pace which worked wonderfully for my job and other commitments. I have also gained new insight for the constructive comments from Sandrine.
I look forward to finishing the assignments and maybe another class from Sandrine.
Art on!
So much fun!
The 26-weeks-of-inspiration course was so much fun. Each unit brought me new enjoyment, and I learned so much. I tried many many types of painting and artwork, so many I would not have thought to do on my own. I recommend this course to anyone who is stuck in a rut with one type of medium, or who is timid and afraid to get started in the world of making art.
If you want to expand your artistry this class can help achieve that in a short time.
I am loving all that I am learning in this class. Using different media every lesson has broadened my ability to use them in my art. I can tell that working every week has made be grow as an artist and I especially appreciate the critiques that Sandrine is providing if we want her to do so. I really feel this class is an amazing bargain. If you want to expand your artistry this class can help achieve that in a short time.
Finding my own style
Sandrine inspires me. She motivates me to find my own style by trying new techniques and materials, and enjoy the process of each project.
Sandrine’s method has silenced the inner critic, given me wings and excited the creativity I’m discovering is within.
Now art is something I do every day…
This is a great opportunity to try so many different techniques, with Sandrine’s gentle guidance and encouragement. I love this class..I have learned so much and I can see my artwork developing. I was so put off making art by an unsympathetic teacher in school, I just wish he had been like Sandrine!
Now art is something I do every day…I feel I have set out on an exciting journey…I would recommend ’26 weeks ‘ unreservedly.
I love trying different techniques and mediums.
I am really enjoying the exploration in the lessons in this class. I love trying different techniques and mediums.
This class is exactly what I needed
This class is exactly what I needed to jump start me back into drawing and painting after many years of working creatively on a computer only. The lessons flexibility and guidance are very helpful. Sandrine’s personal advice and helpful critiques have opened my eyes to another way of seeing. I feel a true sense of advancement in my skills and a widening of perceptive ability in my art.
Thank you Sandrine!
I’m being stretched in many new directions and I must thank you for it!
I just have to say how much I am enjoying your “26 weeks of Inspiration and Training” class. I was surprised to see that I had all the supplies I would need on hand, but I shouldn’t have been because, as I am always wanting to try new ways of painting, I pick up art supplies all the time. The problem was that I never really got around to using them. Now the pressure is on to get out of my comfort zone and I actually love it!
I’m being stretched in many new directions and I must thank you for it!
This inspiration to art will be with me always!
26 weeks of inspiration and training was a gift of discovery and art. I am an art dabbler who loves to “mess around” with paint, ink and paper. I was led by Sandrine to new adventures and ideas. Some were challenging and led me to question my own perception of my art. Other lessons were great new methods and examples that truly helped me learn to compose and paint. I have enjoyed the sharing from others taking the class. I am branching out and I am enjoying a new energy in my own art. Thanks, Sandrine, this inspiration to art will be with me always!
I learned many new techniques
I loved this class. I learned many new techniques, and was introduced to some new media & substrates. The videos were succinct and easy to follow. I look forward to taking more workshops from Sandrine.
I actually made no less than 16 paintings which have all been exhibited
I loved this online class which I took many months ago.
I actually made no less than 16 paintings which have all been exhibited – some still are. The size of the paintings are 30×30, 50×50, and 60×60 cm.
I found your teaching and your method very inspiring.
I “found” you via a picture in Pinterest, then went on to YouTube and ended up on your website/blog where I signed up for the class.
Lots of thanks from Denmark
I absolutely loved this class
It was just what I needed to start me painting again and when time permits I’m coming back for more Sandrine!
Thank you
Sandrine is so helpful and encouraging. Each class is so varied and interesting, often topics I would never have come up with.Very inspirational.
Variety Alone is Inspiring
The variety of inspirations week to week keeps me interested and challenged. I’ve already been asked to do several things I’ve never done before and I’m only finishing week 7. Looking forward to all the coming weeks.
I have never attended such a good online course
Dear Sandrine,
I have started the Inspiration Training only a few weeks ago. I have never attended such a good online course. Your instructions, your beautiful works and the organization of the course are really inspire me. I have never had such a busy period in my painting. I am excited to have new assignment and your instructions for it every week. Thanks, Sandrine!
My rating for the course is 5/5, the best!
Best regards:
Imola
So much fun!
Thank you Sandrine for this class, I am enjoying the drawings explorations and going out of my confort zone.
Thank you
Thanks for your useful and beautiful lessons. Sorry can´t travel to participate of your classes and workshops.I´m very far, but enjoy your articles and lessons on line. May be one day, ´ll have this opportunity.
I am enjoying the drawing class very much
I am enjoying the drawing class very much. It has really pushed me to try new methods and actually enjoy the experience. I also liked having an online drawing experience. I have never done that and it opened a whole new facet of creating to me.
While looking online a few
While looking online a few months ago at books about mixed media, I came across a few of Sandrine’s short videos. At the time, I thought they were a generous sharing of technique, but did not record the artists name. A few days ago, after a frustrating fortnight of trying to motivate myself into some artistic activity, I decided that I needed a class to get me going. Then I came across Sandrine again, and am sure that I will gain from the 12 weeks.
I am old, and love colour. My pic is of from last year, when I took part in a 100 Day Project. Here are my first 9 days of postcard sized collages cut from my hand coloured rice paper. Enough for now! I will will begin drawing with my left hand.
I find this fun and exciting
I find this fun and exciting even though I’m behind the schedule. The assignments we get are quite different from my experience from the drawing classes I know. I might even try other classes.
I like it very much.
I like it very much. The assigments are different from what I have been doing till now.
I already completed the 26 weeks class
I already completed the 26 week class and the Flowers from imagination class but my drawing skills are not wonderful and I feel taking this class may help. I enjoy the different classes as Sandrine is so very helpful with her feedback.
The instructions are very clear
The instructions are very clear especially for a non-artist. Sandrine also replies pretty quickly with her critique or answers to questions.
I love the course! The
I love the course! The exercises in 12 weeks of drawing explorations have really helped me to let go of end results and embrace the process of creating. It’s brought a lot more energy to my images and I’m having a whole lot of fun. And going at your own pace means there’s never any pressure. Recommended!
Very interesting 🙂
I am enjoying very much this class! and the puppy is so cute 🙂
You are a generous and giving teacher
Sandrine, I loved this class and am in the process of creating and continuing to learn more…You are a generous and giving teacher.
I continue to read and follow your blog and advice.
Thank you,
This class was great
This class was great for knowing myself better. It taught me how to deal and improve my skills of drawing which I think I’m getting into it. Also, It has cool techniques.
I always enjoy your classes!! They’re a fun and great for learning!!

This class was great
This class was great for knowing myself better. It taught me how to deal and improve my skills of drawing which I think I’m getting into it. Also, It has cool techniques.
I always enjoy your classes!! They’re a fun and great for learning!!
