How to make mini 6 pages books from one sheet of paper

Recently my son went to a fanzine meeting and made a few booklets from one sheet of paper. I found this to be an awesome idea!

make mini coloring books

This is a very simple yet very fun and versatile technique that could find many applications

You could use these booklets as :

  • Mini coloring books – I find big coloring books a bit overwhelming because of the time it would take but am ready for a mini coloring book 🙂
  • Gift tags
  • Birthday cards
  • Business cards if you are patient 🙂
  • Mini pamphlets

Here is how to make a booklet from one sheet of paper

1-Print the blank template

I am using this blank template to know where to draw (click on the picture to download a PDF). The areas where you can draw are very light grey rectangles, they will show more if you print that page:

2-Print or look at the template with page numbers for reference

You can use the following template to know what each area will be on your booklet (click on the picture to download a PDF) :

3- Draw in each space.

You can make one drawing per space or make a big drawing over two consecutive pages.

4- Fold your paper

Once you have drawn on all the spaces, your sheet of paper will look something like that.

Fold your paper in half lengthwise, fold again in half 2 times.

Unfold everything.

Fold again your paper in half lengthwise, so you can cut the area marked with a grey line on the template:

Open the space where you just cut the paper to finish the book.

5- Glue the pages together (optional)

you can glue the pages of the booklet together

Once you have a good idea of how to fold the page, you can glue the pages together to make the mini-book a bit neater.

you can trim the sides of the booklet

You can also trim the sides as they usually will be a bit uneven.
